Need Help Installing Throttle Linkage 1935 Ford

Should this be so hard? It seems like I am fighting that spring so much. Trying to install the throttle linkage on the firewall. Two bolts! That spring seems to be so tight. Any tips?

Slip the spring off of its loaded position. Install the assembly. Slip a loop of string over the curved end of the spring. Pull it back and slip the spring (end) over the throttle assembly.
Works every time and quite easy at that.

That's what I'm talkin about! I couldn't wait. Went to the garage and used wire, it worked like a charm! Thanks so much, I struggled with this for a few hours.

I don't know how many I had struggled with until I took a step back, looked at it and "found" that method.

That's what I do. It is also useful to slip the spring arm off when taking an engine in or out. The arm flips up against the firewall instead of getting in the way. I use one of my pick tools which has a hooked end to flip the spring arm on and off.
Mart.
