How are vintage license plates held on

I have an original 1931 license plate but it does not have holes in the bottom of plate to fasten to plate bracket. I've noticed a lot of old plates do have holes in the bottom, just the top. Since it's a nice plate i would hate to drill holes in it. The ones of you that use vintage plates what did you do.

License Plate – Bob Drake https://share.google/Cn7y8dQmfRuArdk2C

Bob Drake has the clamp type. No bolt holes needed. You may have to adapt it.
