wheel LUG NUT torque....

Hello,

Is there a recommended wheel LUG NUT torque for a 1935 Ford pickup.

Thank you,

Bruce in California

I don't think anyone in 1935 torqued lug nuts. Maybe at the factory. Some say torque till they squeak. I would say in answer to your question. Tight

I always go for about 75-80 lbft. Don't know if it is right or wrong but that's what I use. Mart.

i generally tighten all lug nuts by hand with a lug wrench. and tighten them as tight as i can with the thought in mind that i would need to get them back off again...by hand.

Huey has the best technique.

As a side note, I have found lug nut washers to be very helpful.

If I use a torque wrench I use 65# and retest after a few miles just to be safe.

I also use 65#, because I read it somewhere and I've never had a wheel come loose and also never had a problem loosening one.

My grade 12 Auto Teacher once told our class if he ever caught one of us tightening wheel nuts until they squeaked, he would tighten our nuts until we squeaked. Then said to find and read the specs for the vehicle we were working on.

Just as important as torqueing, perhaps even more important, is to torque in a star pattern sequence, particularly with wide five wheels, as the drum will go egg shape otherwise, raising hell with your brakes.

Yes, and I also torque to 65 lb-ft. There are many connections that I don't use3 a torque wrench for but for engine and suspension I do.

Interesting to see a value written down. 60-65 lbft. At least using 75 is on the safe side as in tighter rather than looser.

THANK YOU to everyone whom replied back to me and for the Torque Values chart.

I torqued mine down to 65 ft lbs in a star pattern.

THANK YOU,

Bruce in Ca.

Yes Mart, I didn't record my source and couldn't relocate it today. At the time I was looking for the sector shaft value and located the table.
