Inside engine is Green?

Anyone know of a engine builder who painted the engines green inside?
Car has been in Virginia for a long time, been sitting since 2015.
I dropped the pan to clean it out...pan was clean.
Thanks Wick

Definitely a builder's signature. Aluminum cam gear ? Some effort was put into that rebuild.

There is a spray can insulating varnish used for electrical fields and armatures that is pretty much the same color as shown in your pictures. Maybe somebody found it worked as well as normal internal engine sealers but was cheaper.

I use Glyptal - it's reddish orange.

Bad Idea!

There were some modern cars that painted the inside of the engine oil pan and it had very bad results. The paint flaked off and plugged up the oil screen instantly turning them into boat anchors. It was a very costly mistake.

The real question is why?

Bill

The Glyptal (insulating varnish used for electrical fields and armatures) that I'm familiar with has a gloss finish, not like the green shown in Wick's picture.

Re: Inside engine is Green?

Hello, Hudson engines were painted with a sealing paint from the factory, was supposed to keep oil from sticking to inside casting , at least the 1948 to 54 engines were. Also Buick’s had inside differentials were also painted inside. Does sound like some effort was put into engine rebuilding.

I have a NOS Ford banjo that's painted a reddish color on the inside.

The inside of front cover is orange. Looks line glyptol.
Crank counter weights look like BB crank with overhanging counter weights.

I want to thank everyone for the information. The engine runs very strong and is smooth.
Car has a Mitchell overdrive and a/c .
I did find the pan tray was loose, bouncing around. I could hear something.
The crank has worn the tray badly, it actually has a Crack in it.
Lucky I happened to have a nice tray.

The ends of those cotter pins are kind of long, surprised builder didn't trim them a little.

I think it was on Fordbarn several years ago, an engine re-builder had used an epoxy paint inside crankcase for that purpose of oil not sticking to walls of engine but it was sort of a red as I remember. never saw the green until now.
