used oil flows like water I am using Valvoline Daily Protection Non-Detergent SAE 30 Conventional Motor oil and just changed it and the old oil flowed out like water. Should I be using sae 40?
|
Re: used oil flows like water not really- the 30 is sufficient. Truthfully, either is fine, unless you are in an extremely cold climate.

Re: used oil flows like water Maybe it is diluted. Is your engine running excessively rich?

Re: used oil flows like water Did the old oil smell like gas?

Re: used oil flows like water Wow! Another question on oil. Everyone has their own ideas including me.
If it’s a higher mileage engine. I think SAE 30 might be to light. I like to use 20-50 HD. I could go on about why but this is just my go to Model A engine oil. |
Re: used oil flows like water Do you have a downdraft carb and manifold by chance? If so, then a leaky float valve will run gas into the engine. Ends up in the oil.

Re: used oil flows like water All good comments.
I run Valvoline 20W-50 racing oil. |
Re: used oil flows like water If it's diluted with a lot of fuel it'll definitely be thin!!!
|
Re: used oil flows like water Was the oil hot? Or had it been sitting and cooled down?
