How does the Knob go onto the Hood Cable on a 46 Ford
 

How does the Knob go onto the Hood Cable on a 46 Ford, is it just a matter of pushing it on, I have waited 6 months for this T Handle Knob so I don't want to mess it up.

I had to replace the T-handle on my ‘46, as one side of the T was broke off. I broke off the rest of it with wire cutters, and the hole in the new one was the right size to let it fit over the pull cable. I used 5 Minute Epoxy to secure the handle to the cable.

New Zealand assembled 46 to 48's used the same metal T handle that was on Mk1 Zephyr's. It has the word "hood" embossed on it and attached by a grub screw.

Unfortunately mine does not have a grub screw

Bill, I'm not sure that 5 minute epoxy will do the job. The hood release has a bit of resistance and if the knob or T handle comes off then you have a bigger problem.

I'd run an appropriately-sized coarse tap down the hole in the handle and put a couple of crimps in the wire to give the epoxy something to "grip" on.

Tubman, excellent idea, a straight pull with a smooth hood release wire and a plastic knob won't last long.

Thanks guys for all the replies and ideas, I do have some JB Weld in the shop. When you buy a new cable like I did, the Hood Pull handle or knob is separate with no instructions, you would think it would be a simple task of pushing it on but maybe it comes of just as easy, so that's why I asked the question running a tap down the knob hole sounds good as does crimping the area where the knob goes on. Thank you Bill
