Re: 56 ford engine swap

These are mounts that I've been told work:

Anchor 2725 and 2726 - 84 Lincoln

Also 76 F150 302 mounts.

64-65 Galaxy 289 (might have to use a short spacer with these)

There’s a 52-59 Ford social group over on the HAMB. If you don’t get the info here, try over there.

You may need to join to access that. If so, read the rules closely, and if you’re using an EFI motor don’t mention it. They are very strict about following the rules. You also get better advice by doing a short proper introduction.

Jalopy Journal and the HAMB are owned by Ryan, who also owns this site.

The 52-59 Social group doesn't care about, stock, modified etc. Just the HAMB part (old school rods) care about that. Nice guys on the social group, I am member. You got to join the HAMB first, then go to the social group

Pictures and part numbers, be sure and read all the notes below. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...2.24352/albums You do have an advantage by swapping out the Six, the six cylinder cars have the radiator mounted further forward this helps with fan to radiator clearnce.

Use the mounts I posted below, and you won't need to do that, also There are two brands of headers that you can use with zero clearance issues. Hedman 88400 and Patriot H8433. Swaps in a 1954-56 Ford will require the early front sump oil pan and timing cover used before 1980,the later 302/5.0's used a dual sump oil pan and have a driver's side dipstick which is what you want if the swap was going into a 1949-53 car.

I founded the HAMB 1952-59 Ford Group back in May 1994 all the Swap info can be found in a HUGE file the "Sticky FAQ" all the information was member submitted, DO NOT ask questions there it is an information file only, use the regular board for any questions.

In most cases you do not need to slot the mounts, but there was no computer accuracy in the 1950's and so we suggested slotting because some members that did the swap found slightly offset holes, when I did my '54 I only had to elongate one hole slightly on the passenger side, you can always do a trial fit and hope you get lucky. ;) I covered that in the notes under the pictures.

Re: 56 ford engine swap

Hi, this is my first post. I just bought a 56 Customline Fordor. The person I got it from had no knowledge about the car. They just inherited it. I have no idea which motor it has in it. Is there any identifying info on the block that will tell me which V8 it is. Based on pics I’ve seen, it appears to be the original motor and automatic transmission. Thanks

Full details with pictures are here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8uukADyczM Be sure to read the comments under the pictures. You have an advantage since you are replacing a Six, the radiator mounts are further forward giving you more clearance. ;)

Re: 56 ford engine swap

Is there something drastically wrong with the current engine's condition? Worn rings or something? If not, I'd encourage you to keep the 6 in that car if that's how it was originally equipped.

If you want more power, I don't think there is a shortage of '56 Fords with V-8's for sale.
