59A adjustable lifters having wear problem
 

Valves were getting increasingly noisy. When re-adjusting lifters, found some

had uneven wear. Turning lifter in the bore would yield a different reading. More than 10 thousandths in some cases. Lifters are obviously shot. If i replace lifters, can i get away with not changing cam....Also where should i look for adjustable lifters. I know some people say the new ones have adjusters that wont stay put. thanks for any advice

The answer is "maybe".
You need to look at the cam closely.
It's a bit expensive to try, consider the worn lifters might have worn the cam.
Replacing the cam might be the best way to go.

Also, be certain the have the hardness of each and every lifter checked professionally. The last set I'd got from Red's had two of the sixteen dead soft.

When installing a cam in a "street" engine, regardless of the grind. I use stock springs with a .060 shim. Thisgives aprox 50LBs on the seat. Street engine rarely see more than 3500 rpm amd has on effect on the "rump rump"

I would NOT recommend using any mismatched parts.
You can have the cam reground.
I would use PROPERLY reconditioned stock steel lifters.

After listening to all of the adjustable lifter problems of the last few years, it may be impossible to get any that will last right now.

Some of the prblems of lifters I have seen come into my shop in the last 5 years:
1 - Loose screws.
2 - Wrong or no taper on face.
3 - Tapered barrel, some up to .004.
4 - Face not square with barrel.
5 - Uneven heat treat throughout especially on face.
6 - Undersize barrel by .003.
