Clamshell Sealing Question

I'm resealing the U-Joint Clamshell in my '35 coupe: it has a '39 trans, '40 rear end, '37 rear trans mount.

Should I use a Permatex-style sealer on the two paper gaskets between the clamshell and the back of the trans?

Do you apply any sealer along the horizontal edges where the upper and lower clamshell halves meet?

I have one of the "Stop-Leak" urethane seals I plan on using at the rear of the clamshell.

Thanks.

19Fordy provided good instructions here, https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showp...52&postcount=8

For the paper gaskets, a thin coating of grease or non-setting Permatex will both work well.

Re: Clamshell Sealing Question

In addition to 19Forty's post, I do some additional prep to all mating steel surfaces on all the parts that make-up the clamshell universal cover, to insure that all surfaces are totally flat and free of any burrs. I do this on a flat steel machinists plate using a very fine grit emory paper.
