Power steering in '49 - '51 Fords

What are the best options for adding power steering to a stock 1951 Victoria? Can the factory '52 - '53 Ford / Mercury set up be adapted successfully? What mods are required?

Take a look at Borgeson.com
While on their site I noticed a kit for 49-5? Mercury.

I had a 50 Ford for a while, it drove like a dream compared to all the older cars I've had, just about a modern car IMHO

Good question, if the steering and suspension are the same, or similar, I would guess then it would be a definite possibility to install a factory 53' unit.

The complete units have become very hard to find and definitely are not cheap. You are looking at between $1,500 and $2,500 if you can find one. All of the parts, except one, are the same for the Merc and Fords (the idler arm mounting bracket).

Does not work with a flathead engine.

Why does it not work? 52-53 Fords and Mercs had flathead engines with power steering. or were you referring to the Borgeson unit? Your post was a little unclear.

Ford and Mercury/Lincoln went to new suspension I believe in 52. Borgeson.com says kit not recommended for flathead, not sure if it's frame clearance or difficulty of finding pulley's. You would have to call and ask.

I used the 605 PS box Buick column and mad an adapter for the 70[s style pump. Got everything from a junk yard. The system is in my 47 KB1 with a 46/8 front axle ans suspension, Works pretty good. Mounting the pump was the hardest part.

I was referring to the Borgeson unit. Sorry for the incomplete answer. Yes I'm aware of the 52 & 53 factory units but they are hard to find and very expensive.
