adding rear seal to 39 block rebuilding 1939/85 hp Ford but crank bad, have later version crank available which is not slinger style. Is there a way to add rear seal setup to my block or do I need to look for correct crnk?

Re: adding rear seal to 39 block Does your engine have the removable pot-mdetal seal plates in it? I believe it does.
If so, then you can replace the ones you have with the later ones that encompass the rear rope seals. You might contact Mac VanPelt - he probably has the plates. |
Re: adding rear seal to 39 block You can also contact Red's headers. He had the converson to convert the slinger style Block to the later rope style. I used this to install a late 8BA crank in a 37 block.

Re: adding rear seal to 39 block The diecast pieces you need are; 19B 6336 lower
91A 6335 upper These will directly interchange with what's in your block now and allow you you fit a positive rear seal. |

BTW: I would use the BestGasket's rear main seal kit - has a nice graphite impregnated rope seal and usually includes a small roll-pin that needs to be installed in the die-cast seal plate. The purpose is to keep the seal from spinning. If it has the roll-pin, make sure you install it. You'll need a drill-press and a small bit to partially drill down into the plate. Follow the instructions! Attachment 511660 |
