1934 Ford 1 1/2 ton Truck Tires
 

Hello new to barn just purchased a 1934 model bb truck that has been in a barn since 1951 . anyone have any thoughts on tires for it? Too many choices any input appreciated Thanks

Mike,
I like the 6.00-20 Firestones on my ton and half. I got mine from Miller, but that was a year ago. Tubes and flaps were from Lucas. Hope that helps a little.
Interesting story. Mine was put away in 1952. I guess these are still out there!

Note: you DO NOT want the rear duals so large that they rub sidewalls on the lower or loaded position-fronts can go larger, but then you have turning rubs. Newc

Hi Mike, Welcome to the Barn from a fellow Washingtonian. Awful wet tonight over here on the Left Side. Sounds really interesting what you have found. My advice is to read through Sugarmaker's thread, 'The Duece, the dually and the Dump Truck'. And of course keep in mind we all like pictures!

Welcome and good luck with your truck. I have a 1935 1-1/2 ton truck and had the same questions about what tires to purchase. I decided the 6.00 x 20 were a bit skinny for my taste and the 7.00 and 7.50 x 20 are bit too large so I settled on 6.50 x 20. Unless you plan to carry heavy loads, it's more of a style question than a functional one, with the exception that larger tires are not only larger in diameter they are wider so clearance can be an issue. I purchased mine from Coker Tires a while back but Miller in Ohio is another good source. Tires for your truck are stlll being made but you might have to wait a bit to get the size any type (Firestone for example). Feel free to PM me if you want more detailed information.

I choose these only becasue that was what was on the truck when I got it.
Another consideration. The spare I put on only allows me to open the passenger door about 50%.

Purchased this truck from a farmer this was his dads truck. parked in 1951 in barn, then in 1995 they moved it to another building where the truck was driven into till now, they changed oil stored it properly. The engine rolls over and has clean oil. Truck is in my shop and this is my winter project.

Just today mounted up a pair of Lucas 600-20 tires (from Lucas tire in Long Beach CA) for the front of my buddy's '39 1-1/2 ton. Would have preferred the 650-20 Firestones, but at about $115 cheaper each, they'll do. Can't speak to their relative quality, however, having not run them yet. They are made in Vietnam, the tubes from India, but the flaps are made in USA, of all places!

Sounds good!
I like the new shoes on my ragged ol truck! Some people think they are original. I drive on some dirt roads to get them looking right!
If those rims are similar to mine. Split type. Have them take care removing the split seal bead.

I have a 1937 1 1/2 Ton dump truck(131WB) with 6.50 x 20's (new tires), Firestones, and the truck has 37,000 miles. I have the "original" spare tire which is a 6.00 x 20(Goodyear). I like the "bigger" 6.50 but these truck came with either 6.00 or 6.50 x20. I agree with Dave as the 6.00 are too skinny. Henry
