Mechanical brakes dust cover

In the process of installing floater brake adjusters on my 35. Is there any trick on reinstalling the dust covers on adjuster?

I leaned the cover a bit to wedge the edge in the slot, used a socket-just the right size then tapped it in.

Hope you have woven linings.Mine were molded and I saw no improvement with the floaters.

In the photo it looks like one shoe has a molded lining and the other a woven lining.

No David,All the shoes on my old '33 had molded linings.I think the brands were different.

Get a socket that is same diameter as the cup,sit the cup on it and use a large punch to punch the centre ,it will decrease the diameter for the cup and make for an easy install, then give it a few hits with a small ball peen Hamer on the centre to tighten it up

I only use woven linings, at least through '36s. As I recall, the '37s use one of each per wheel.

Sometimes parts of the locking groove break off so you may have to dimple the edge with a center punch after you get the cap in place. My friend had a noise in his rear and when he pulled the drum the dust/grease cap fell out. When we examined it the edge was broken in three places.I was amazed, but it didn't do any damage. I could just imagine the dust cap wedging itself between the shoe and the drum.

I used my grinder to bevel the edge and then used a 15/16 socket and pounded it flush. I then used an 1/8" punch to push it down all the way.

mine were so loose, I was afraid they would fall out so I used RTV around the edges.
