Re: What color are valve covers for 1957 292? Typical for '55, '56 & 57 Ford cars and maybe other years as well, the valve covers, oil filler cap, coil mounting bracket, crankcase vent tube & oil filter cannister were high temperature gloss black. The engine block castings were Ford red/orange high temperature enamel. The air cleaner housing was painted Ford Argent silver.
Some of the repro auto parts suppliers still sell the official Ford Argent silver in spray cans and Ford red in both spray cans and quart containers. Fairly decent high temp black is sold at many chain auto parts stores in spray cans. Be sure to apply a coat of high temp primer on the stamped steel parts prior to applying overcoat. |
Re: What color are valve covers for 1957 292? THANKS guys for the info; just got a 1957 Country Squire with 292 and has blue valve covers. Block red/orange and air cleaner is silver.

Re: What color are valve covers for 1957 292? Mine has the Thunderbird decals on both valve covers. The Thunderbird Special ones go on the "real" 312s.

Re: What color are valve covers for 1957 292? Correct, if you really want to dress it up go with the T Bird cast aluminium valve covers. The most beautiful factory valve covers ever made in my opinion.
