Frame rust 2 Attachment(s)
Well I bought another frame for my ‘36 pickup over the weekend to replace the rusty one I had only to find rust in my new rust free frame when I got home. I know I can repair the rust, however, with the limited time I have to work on my own stuff I had hoped to just spend the money and get a frame without rust, saving myself some time. Now, basically back in the same boat, I am looking at options.
Does anybody know if someone makes repair pieces for this section of the frame, or does anybody have a junker frame with the passenger rear corner in good, useable shape that they’d sell? I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Thanks |
Re: Frame rust I am not aware of anybody making repair sections for the back corner of the frame. Joe's Antique Auto Parts in Mass. is offering some frame repair sections for the area in front of the rear axle and maybe some other pieces.
It would be good if you told us what year/model your vehicle is. |
Re: Frame rust I checked out Joes to see if they had these pieces but the closest piece is the rear crossmember. Thanks for the suggestion. I did add the vehicle year and type in my original post. Sorry about that.

Re: Frame rust Looks bent and mangled too
As long as you didn't pay xtra for it the rust is free |
Re: Frame rust It needs completely replaced on that corner. It’s bent/mangled only because it so heavily rusted in that corner. I should’ve looked closer at the frame.

Re: Frame rust I have the remains of a '35 pass. frame, let me check and I'll get back with you.

Re: Frame rust Thank you very much John.

Re: Frame rust 35 to 40 frames are notorious for rot.
Can you cut it out of your other frame? |
Re: Frame rust 1 Attachment(s)
35 to 41 pickup frames are all similar, so that might give you a wider range to look at.

Re: Frame rust Unless you are trying to be 100% original I would think any decent fab shop could make that repair.

Re: Frame rust it would be hep full to tell people where you are located. as stated above 35 to 40 car and to 41 pick up frames are very similar

If someone has this chunk of frame, I’ll buy it. If not, I’ll post some photos of the repair hoping it can help someone in my same situation. Thanks |
Re: Frame rust I looked at my frame parts, the last 20" on driver side main frame is good, the "x"member part is rough, the same parts on pass. side are rough., do not have rearmost crossmember. If you are interested and it is warm enough for my wife & her cell phone tomorrow, I'll have her send you some pictures. Parts are free, you pay shipping from zip code 74601.
John (PS) Any body have any use for a '49 thru 51' Merc ( pedals thru floor), rolling frame? Same price and deal. |
Re: Frame rust Thanks John. I appreciate that. I’ll send you a PM with my contact so that you can shoot me some pictures if it’s convenient.

Re: Frame rust 1 Attachment(s)
Today I decided to make the necessary pieces to repair the rust in my otherwise rust free frame. I still need to clean up the surface rust before I weld the pieces in place, and either source rivets or machine them.

Re: Frame rust Great looking repair panel!
