Drake gas tanks

Has Drake fixed the size of the gas tank figment problem with their early tanks?
I plan to replace the tank in my early 37 4dr with the screw in neck.
Thanks in advance, regards, Don

I hope so, I have yet to install my new tank in my 35.
I’m still working on getting the tank neck out of the old one without damage.

I never had a problem with fitments on the 1936 and 37 tanks.. I have installed three of them. It's the later 38-40 tanks that give the trouble.. Even with that said thank can be installed

I put a SS Drake tank in my '40 a couple of years ago......it fit perfectly.......about 2-1/2 hours for the whole job, on my back in my shop. Would easily recommend that tank.

Recently returned a Drake tank that would NOT fit correctly in a 40 pu. Also the drake sending unit would not fit correctly in their own tank !!!!

Tell me, and we will both know:)
I bought a spanner wrench and can get it on the holes, but not enough leverage to turn it.
I’m thinking I have to remove the fender so that I can fit a cheater pipe to the wrench. My other thought is if I can torch the neck off the tank first and then deal with it in the bench vise.
No worries about the flames, tank has rust holes as big as my fist in bottom.

I think you are on track with that thought , although it might just be a better idea to just order a new Drake filler neck
