is it a bolt in job? i know that exhaust needs changing, what about other stuff?

You will need everything a V8 truck would have come with, bell housing, flywheel, clutch, clutch linkage, and front mount for that year truck.

The radiator & mounting is likely different too. If you find a donor vehicle of the same vintage then that might simplify things.

The application of a V8 Y-block in lieu of a 6 cylinder will require the correct V8 bell-housing to fit the trans in the truck, 3 spd vs 4spd. The front mount for the V8 is a large steel stamping that bolts to the front timing case. Pretty simple swap if you have the right mounting components.
If you want to PM me I can send you some pix of the mount for a Y-block, I have a '64 Y-block that I removed from a '64 F100...
