1936 Ford steering gear identification?
 

Hello Can someone post a picture or tell me how to identify a steering gear I have. I think it is a 1936 Ford. thanks Bob

I may be wrong but I think 36 was the only year with needle bearings on the sector from the factory instead of a bushing. I know that is not much help. When you say "steering gear" do you mean the whole thing with a mast jacket or something apart or only the worm or sector? You might post pictures.

There were only two cross steer boxes with bolt in sector housings. 35&36. The 36 housing is bigger to accomadate the needle bearings.
I believe the 36 box is a bigger ratio. It would be 17 to 1. The 35 was 15 to 1. It would have 3.75 turns total. The 36 would have 4.25 turns.

How about a photo of what you have? You may not have a 35 or 36.

The first picture is a 36 steering box. The other pictures are comparing a 36 steering box to a 38-39 steering box.
