1929 Tudor body on 1931 frame
 

Is this a hard swap barring any repair I find I need to make? My frame is sagging on the passenger side behind the rear motor mount causing a hood alignment problem on the pass side. My driver side door hangs 1/2 low on the belt line alignment. No rust outs on the car body or frame. I have an opportunity to buy a '31 frame that has the emergency brake and service brake cross shafts in place and the running board brackets are there. FWIW my e-brake is to the front of the gearshift and my cars a driver. I've read Mr. Pluckers frame study and got some education like the moving of a frame to body mount, front crossmember height at the frame rails and changes to holes ect. I'll take any advise/hints the community can share. Apologies if a similar thread exists I tried the search feature. Thanx

Wouldn't it be much easier to just straighten the 29 frame?

Thanx for you interest and insight Mr. Wesenberg.The fame has a welded repair of a tear on the frame side rail to the rear of the pass motor mount and the top rail is buckled. It's not pretty. I'm looking for insight on swapping the frame not repairing mine.

You have read Steve's study so you know there is going to be some work involved as it is not just a simple swap, but it has been done. As to, "is this a hard swap..." well that depends on your skill set. Might not be hard but rather, time consuming changing things out.

You will need at least either a 28-29 front crossmember or 1/4 pad (a lot cheaper) under the radiator to get proper alignment. The frame for 28-29 had a raised mounting area on the front crossmember giving the radiator correct height. I may be wrong but I thought I may be in that situation at one time and researched myself.

Be sure to work with the DMV since the serial number is on the frame. If you are not careful they will want to register your car as a "31 because that is what their book says. Shouldn't be a problem if you start early to make sure it isn't.

I wouldn't worry about DMV because they can't see where the frame serial number is when the car is assembled. I've had several old cars serial number verified and they always go by the engine number when they can't find a frame number.

Yes but the next person might when the car is sold to a state that would require a frame number check on car from out of state.
