Clutch & Starter problem

First I installed a new clutch assembly From Fort Wayne clutch co
I am just about positive the clutch plate is in the right way . The only way I can
get it in 1st is by making the adjustment rod so the TO bearing is pressing on the fingers so no free play at all when I try to drive it & give it gas the
clutch is slipping . The starter is hanging up in the flywheel every once in
awhile the Bendix looks ok & there is a new ring gear installed it does
have the little bracket that bolts on to the oil pan this is on a 8ba fresh
rebuild before I remove the the transmission any ideas on this the cross
member looks like it was never take off since 1951 I am afraid the bolts
are going to snap

Re: Clutch & Starter problem

I'm a bit confused here. Did you pull the engine to change the clutch. If not, then how did you pull the trans without removing the cross member? Sounds like there is something wrong with the way the clutch linkage is hooked up. More info please or better yet pictures.

Re: Clutch & Starter problem

After the engine was rebuilt I installed the clutch before I put the engine back in
the car also installed bell housing , clutch fork , throw out bearing & starter plate
before the engine went back in the car
