Steering Column Support I have a friend with a leaky steering column support at the gas tank on his 1930 Model A Tudor. I know there is a fix which puts the column mount on the dash; thus relieving the tank from the stress of the column.
I have not been able to locate this information (I did have it on my old computer, but it crashed). Can anyone help me out? Thanks, |
Re: Steering Column Support Ron, are you of the opinion that if the column is removed from the tank bracket that the leak will stop?
|
Re: Steering Column Support Brent - No, the leak will have to be fixed (he is in the process now). I just wanted to show my friend how this problem could be avoided in the future, and then let him decide.
Anyone been able to find the info yet? It will be much appreciated. |
Re: Steering Column Support i think that late 31 model A's had a steering colomn support mounted off of the dash rail, therefore not putting stress on the gas tank.he could repair the leak, then add the 31 support with the original one not actually supporting the column.

Re: Steering Column Support Use the later 31 steering column suppot (available from the vendors) and it mounts up under the dash panel (Ibelieve to existing holes, may have to use spacer washers). Others more knowlegable may chime in. U could also do a search as this has been discussed in detail before.

Re: Steering Column Support On a 30 the 31 support bolts on using two of the under dash bolts-no spacer needed. Also, don't use the bottom support as the two together can cause more problems. loosen the steering box and then tighten the 31 support.Leave the bottom bracket rubber cushion out and there won't be any strain on the tank.

Re: Steering Column Support Buy an original bracket. They are much better than the repros. Ebay has them all the time:

Re: Steering Column Support You can add it to the 28-29 without drilling any extra holes in the car. Someone posted here before with pictures of how to do it. You take a samll plate that matches the holes behind the dashrail. Make some more hoels to match the drop and then you are good to go. I will see if I have it in my files.

Re: Steering Column Support All - Yes, the information you have supplied is exactly what I was looking for (and what I remembered after seeing said info).
I will make copies of the pictures, and part information. Thanks, |
