Model B rear axle I got a 1934 Model 18 (european deuce) it was a stock 4 banger.
I am now running a flathead v8 with a 1939 transmission and the stock axle. For lower rpm on highway speeds i want to change my rear end ratio. Somewhere i read the internals of this axles are the same as Model A axles so i can use a model a gear set. Can someone confirm this ? i cannot find much information about the european model B http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/...sy25mkkm0.jpeg |
Re: Model B rear axle Look at the flange on the totque tube where it bolts to the center section. If it is round, the rear uses Model A gears.

Re: Model B rear axle That is one nice car for sure, and a nice touch with the "big 'n little" tires, too. What part of the world are you in? DD

Re: Model B rear axle And it's a Dagenham-Briggs body.

Re: Model B rear axle Is that body the same general size as the US body? It looks a bit smaller to me but perhaps that's an optical illusion caused by the larger rear wheels.

Re: Model B rear axle According to Ford's dimensions contained in the U.S. and U.K. Sales Manuals, the U.K. Briggs body was taller by 2 1/2" inches, but had 3" less head room (which makes no sense). From the firewall to the rear seat, the distance was within a 1/2" between the two bodies.

Re: Model B rear axle The same drawings show the effective seat heights to be about the same although the U.K. Briggs saloon body has a depressed floor in the rear compartment which creates the impression of a higher rear seat.

Re: Model B rear axle I would replace the gear with a 3:54. What would be the benefit of a Model A rear gear as most of them are 3:78 or 4:11?
