50 Ford running poor at higher rpms....

Hi everyone. I have a 50 flathead that's. 30 over but otherwise stock with a model 94 carb. Idles pretty good for the most part but falls on its face and misses badly when you start accelerating. If you Crack the throttle it will review but basically not drivable....trend a different coil first with no luck. I am running an electric fuelike pump also. Any suggestions on where to start???

Any help is greatly appreciated!

How is the vacuum line to the distributor hooked up? And for that matter what distributor are you using? Don't think that is the original carb, the stock distributor won't work without the original carb.

Assuming that your electric pump is properly located near the tank, and that it has performed well for you in the past, I would check the fuel filter for debris, and the pressure regulator for 2 ~ 3 lbs pressure. I'd then take off the line to the carburetor, direct it into a clear glass bottle, and observe for volume and air bubbles. If volume is low, invest in a Shewman flex line, which you should have anyway. Beyond that, it gets more expensive and labor intensive.

Good point, but they are all 94's. I believe the actual model he needs is an EAB ?

Yep, it's not clear if it's the original carb with the vacuum ports

Been running this carb with the stock distributor for the last 10 years. My though was the distributor so I put a reman one in with the same issue. I still have the original and it is also a 94. The fuel pump is back by the tank. I will have to check the filter and see if I have any air bubbles.....otherwise I was going to look at having my original carb rebuilt and go from there. Just doesn't seem like a card issue to me, but I sure could be wrong.... I get a steady 20 lbs of vacuum at idle from the carb also

The vacuum line from the distributor connects to the carb, correct? Are you saying that the car ran fine for 10 years and just started this issue?

Could be something as simple as bad plug wires.

Yeah the problem just started a few weeks ago. The vacuum line does run from the carb to the vacuum advance

I have thought about trying new wires. Just haven't wanted to start throwing parts at it to see it it fixes the problem but would be a cheap enough try

If you know its not running out of fuel, try a condenser.... Mark
