1948 Tudor Sedan Hood Alignment Question

The hood on my car (and many others I've seen) is not aligned properly. The hood seems to be setting maybe 3/8" too far forward of the firewall and slightly elevated in the rear. Does anyone have step-by-step instructions on how to properly align the hood for the correct placement when closed? Many thanks!!!!!

Rick, go to www.marksfordparts.com and toward the bottom of the page there is a link to an article on hood alignment he wrote for the V8 Times. Pretty well covers what you need. It's a bit counter intuitive. If you want to lower the hood you raise the hinge.

The article you are looking for is in the May/June 2009 issue of the V-8 Times. It covers from1941 thru 1948 Ford hoods

Re: 1948 Tudor Sedan Hood Alignment Question

The hood on my 47 is off real bad. Its had 3 different hinges. Someone put new hole on pass side the inside one to make better. Still doesn't shut right.
It looks like the nose maybe off center some but have not loosened the nose.
The way the hood are made some maybe different seems the pass side is problem.
As the years go by and fixing the cars up not all cars have original hood.
Mine is no way original. I was told its a early 47 has 46 nose and hood not right.
One day the sun was just right and on fire wall was Sept 47 that's late to be early 47.
I may try speedway hood hinge kit.

Is that a 47? hmmmm thought the 47 had park lights below the headlights must be an early 47.

The car is a 1947 on cowl says Sept 47 and numbers are late in year.
Was sold as a early 47 on the bay. BUT Has a 46 nose the chrome should be down below the crease.
Anyway the hood is not original and doesn't fit correct.

Re: 1948 Tudor Sedan Hood Alignment Question

I guess Ford did whatever they wanted to back in the day. Georges 47 has 46 fender trim, parking lights and a particle 46 hood. I do not understand the 46 hood ornament with a 47 front of hood ornament. I also noticed that it does not have the stainless window surround.
I think that article does the trick for alignment though. Good Luck

Re: 1948 Tudor Sedan Hood Alignment Question

Just a thought. as I recall when I put my 48 back together. there was an issue with the front end where the hood latches down. seems like I had to move the latch area back. it's ben 20 years so don't remember what I did to correct this issue. Think about it looks like the hood is just too far forward. hmmmmm.
