Re: 49/51 merc water pumps Buy yourself a rebuild kit for around $30 plus shipping. DIY and then ask yourself how much you'd charge to do it for someone else.

Re: 49/51 merc water pumps I just rebuilt an 8 ba pump. I wanted to do it my self for the experience. Cost of the parts for one pump was $30 + shipping. I'd say from start to finish; disassembly, media blast, replace parts was about 45 - 60 minutes.
They were not hard to do, you do need access to a press and a few shop tools. So for $70 + an afternoon in the shop you could do it your self. I'll bet someone in the Early Ford V8 club in your area can help??? www.efv8.org |
Re: 49/51 merc water pumps I did the skip pumps many years ago 10 or so. they look real good , and I haven't had any trouble. seem to cool {pump ] good. no muss no fuss. Glad I did it.

Re: 49/51 merc water pumps For the record I sent my Merc pumps to Skip and I'm happy with them. I since have located this rebuilder right in town. I have never used him but have heard good things about his work. FWIW.
