Back window installation

What is the best and easiest way to install the back windows(those above the trunk) on a 1939 ford sedan?

Re: Back window installation

On my 40 I installed them with the rear glass out/down so I could reach in and out. I put a cord [1/8"?] in the slot of the rubber that goes on the flange of the opening after coating it well with liquid soap. I then set the glass up against the outside opening then pulling the cord onto the flange I slowly pulled the cord in small circles with pressure on the outside of the glass until it was totally engaged on the flange. Slapping the glass with your palm helps to center it in the opening. I used Drake rubber and ended up with a slight "rise" in one corner of each glass. I have some new Carpenter pieces which I have been told would not do that, but have not installed them yet. Not a hard job at all.

Did you install the glass from the inside or outside of car?

As 19fordy pointed out, the glass installs from the outside.

I was looking at the back window opening on the '39 sedan and it appears that the inside of the opening is flat and a little larger than the outside of the opening. That would lead me to believe the glass should be held on the inside and the rubber should be pulled to the outside? Maybe that's why the glass doesn't lay flat. The '39 has two back windows. What do you think?

I think that you are correct and I am incorrect. The front glass installs from the outside, the rear installs from the inside. Sorry I mislead you. I just told my wife today that I don't experience anything that makes me feel 70. Now I have, sorry.

My 41 has a one piece glass which installs form the inside. I used an innertube to hold pressure, while I pulled the string from outside. One man job.
