1949 ignition key cylinder replacement help.. hello all I am gonna replace the key cylinder for the ignition but how can I remove the front bezel without damaging the dash and bezel:o.......
any special tools needed??? any info would be much appreciated thank you:) |

you and the other hand rotate the chrome bezel left (if i remember) its spring loaded no tools or science needed.. |
Re: 1949 ignition key cylinder replacement help.. From the 1949- 1951 Shop Manual:
"The bezel must first be removed by prying it away from the panel. Be careful not to scratch the finish on the panel. The ignition switch can now be removed by turning it 1/8 turn clockwise(viewed from the driver's position) until the lugs line up with the slots in the panel and then pulling it out from the rear of the panel." |
Re: 1949 ignition key cylinder replacement help.. To remove the key cylinder you must locate the pin on the side of the switch housing. With the key inserted, turn to "On" position. Push the pin in and the cylinder should slide out. The pin can only be pushed in when the lock cylinder has the key in and turned to "On". I doubt you can do this without first removing the switch from the dash as described above.
