Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box I am planning to do the same install, so I am happy to read the positives.
My 7 tooth box is worn to the point where the steering wheel has 4" of play. |

Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box I have an F-100 steering gear from Mel Gross in my Model A. Love it!! Talk to his son Randy, great guy to work with.

Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box I put one in my 28 two years ago.......I do like it......thought it was really pricey but I bought it anyway. Not hard to install. Good support from those guts

You will not go wrong with this equipment...as I noticed easy steering immediately. NO one who has looked into engine compartment even notices that it ain't original ! And, who cares if one of a hundred does anyway :) |
Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box IMHO a overhauled A gearbox is the way to go. Disassembled my first 2 tooth at age of 16
Cleaned, reassembled and ADJUSTED properly work good for me! Was not hard to steer returned to center and no more play. When adjusting you need to follow each step ! |
Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box Does any one know if the steering boxes in the 1953-1957 Ford 3/4 tons are the same box and gears as the 53-56 1/2 ton F-100s? The box looks the same externally. If so, I know where to nab one.

Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box I just finished rebuilding the seven tooth for my 1929 Tudor. I was able to get all of the parts needed new, except the worm on the steering wheel shaft. I had to reuse my old worm which wasn't too bad. I also had to use my lathe to turn down the end of the steering wheel shaft to true again. I guess that they all need it. Then I had to ream the new bushing to fit the bottom end of the shaft. All said and done, it needed the rebuild as it also had 4 inches of lost motion in the steering wheel, but next time I would rebuild a two tooth gear box for it. The two tooth has more adjustments to keep the steering gear with in its operating limits. The seven tooth only has two adjustments and that is not enough adjustments. F 100 gear box? It is not necessary to use when the two tooth box has rebuild parts available for it. I rebuilt the two tooth gear box for my 1930 Std Phaeton and it works like a dream.

Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box I adapted a F100 steering box and am very happy with it. I bought another one in case someone else in our club wanted one but when I got it I found that it was off from a larger truck and the dimensions were slightly larger. I think it would work but sold it again because I wasn't sure if it would have enough clearance on the engine side of the box. I asked if anyone had tried it on the Hamb site but never got an answer.

Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box I have the F100 steering box and it's great. Has anyone found any additional improvement installing the shortened Pitman arm too?

Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box I also have one of mels boxes . like it .........
|
Re: Need Pro's & Con's On The F-100 Steering Box the steering shaft enters the top of the box on the f100, problems for a 8ba exaust. the f1 box steering shaft enters the lower portion of the box . more room for headers/ manifold.
