Banjo rear end excessive axle play. I have a 40 Ford banjo rear end with excessive in and out axle play on the passenger side. The axle
moves about 1/8 of an inch and makes a thunk when going around a corner. The other side is tight. The axle nut is torqued to factory spec. Any ideas what might be causing this ? |
Re: Banjo rear end excessive axle play. Endplay is controlled by the spider gear cross fit to the axles. Both axles should have the same endplay. If only one side moves There must be something wrong on that side. I would guess hub to axle fit.You might remove the hub and see if axle still has play.If the carrier bearings were bad it still should show up on both sides.

Re: Banjo rear end excessive axle play. The axles that I have taken apart with that much play didn't have good axles or differential cases ---one had been used to run a cordwood saw where one wheel was blocked up to run a flat belt
