21 stud flathead

Recently I bought an exceptionally clean 40 sedan in California. The engine is a 21 stud. This is not correct is it? Were any of the 40 V8 engines 21 stud? Thanks, James

NO, the last 21 stud was in the early 38 Fords. If you engine is a 21 stud with the water pumps on the front of the block it's probably a 37-38 engine. Walt

If you decide you need a 59A for your '40, I have one down the road in S.A. already built.:D

Is that year 40, or model 40?

Your avatar shows a model 40, which would have a 21 stud engine with the water pumps in the heads.
If your new car is a 1940, then the above info about 21 stud engines ending mid 38 is correct.
