F1 Radiator Shroud Did the F1 Ford pickups have a factory radiator fan shroud?
|
Re: F1 Radiator Shroud Been through 5 f-1s with both in line 6 and v-8 . Not seen a shroud on any of them. I ask the same question and was told by some old timers (older than me :) that at that time every effort to make an economical vehicle was put in to the pick up truck line. Such as only 1 wiper and 1 door key lock.

Re: F1 Radiator Shroud Yes they did, I have three for the inline six, If anyone needs one
|
Re: F1 Radiator Shroud I have one that came out of a F2 with a V8. I can provide measurements if anyone wants to know if it will fit a F1.
The F2 radiator has a flange on each side of the core that the shroud bolts to. If the F1 has the flange, It could be an indication that it was equipped with the shroud. |
Re: F1 Radiator Shroud 2 Attachment(s)
Yes, here is one. Bill Boomer (4tford) got it for me out of a grain truck up in Saskatchewan. Not a great pic. Yes they bolt to the flange on the radiator.

Re: F1 Radiator Shroud I,v got one on my recently imported 51 f1 ,lucky to be there apparently,i was told most got junked for whatever reason ,I found it a bit fiddly when removing and replacing the fan assembly but I,m sure it helps cooling , cheers Jim.

Re: F1 Radiator Shroud Our '51 F-1 V8 has a fan shroud and, most of the F-1's I've seen have them as well.

You've got to watch those "old timers". The 1 door key lock was a safety issue as Henry didn't want you to enter/exit or stand in traffic unlocking your door. You had to get in from the curb/sidewalk. As far as one wiper, I went to the bother to hook up the second wiper on my 48 and found the linkage binds, causing more drag so I disconnected it. For 10 years of daily driving, I ran just one - the cab is narrow enough it's all you need. Also keep in mind this was post-war. Chrome and stainless steel was abundant for civilian products again. These trucks came with a lot more shiny stuff than the 42-47's, so it wasn't all about keeping things cheap. To the OP question, yes the F1's came with shrouds because they had the same cooling needs as big trucks. Later owners became lazy when they had to change hoses or waterpumps and eliminated them when replacing parts. Which in part, lead to people complaining that "flatheads run hot". If you have one, use it. If you don't, find one and reduce coolant temps - and not just the shroud, but the in hood deflector and the gravel pan. |

Re: F1 Radiator Shroud There are radiator shrouds on my F-1 (8 cylinder) panel truck and the F-3 (226 inline six).

Re: F1 Radiator Shroud I just picked one up or my 48 v-8. Mine was missing, typical of farm trucks. I also suspect owners left them off after servicing the waterpump or something to make it easier on them. Almost all the trucks I see "in the field" are missing them as well.

Re: F1 Radiator Shroud MT has it right. They all had shrouds and the lower gravel pans. Most disappeared because of the pain to service the lower hoses, pumps, etc....
|
Re: F1 Radiator Shroud Not to mention the hassle of getting the fan lined up in the center without it hitting the shroud. Life is so much easier without that thing.
