46 ford clutch issue Can someone provide information on how to adjust clutch pedal and how pedal should be in a 1946 ford 3 spd on column
Re: 46 ford clutch issue pedal should have 1 to 1 1/2 inches of free play at the clutch pedal, push the pedal down with your fingers to get a more exact measurement, there is a rod going from the clutch pedal arm to the throw out bearing arm, that is where you adjust the clutch

Re: 46 ford clutch issue Free play is that from the top
Or when I release from floor? |
Re: 46 ford clutch issue from the top when you depress the clutch pedal, there will be no pressure on the pedal till the throw out bearing hits the pressure plate, man I hope your serious with these questions and not just jacking me around

Re: 46 ford clutch issue One last thing the Clevis on adjusting rod appears to be all the way out at end of threads
Re: 46 ford clutch issue how much free play do you have at the pedal, if you don't have enough free play the clutch will not release completely from the fly wheel and it will keep turning the trans main shaft and cause gear grinding
Re: 46 ford clutch issue It appears an inch or 1-1/4"
Re: 46 ford clutch issue When pushing with fingers
Re: 46 ford clutch issue As your freeplay seems to be good, I would venture to say the grinding is caused by excessive wear in the clutch plate and/or pressure plate.

Re: 46 ford clutch issue then the free play is good
