6 lbs pressure
 

I have dual carbs on my 53 Ford, it has a electric fuel pump. The rear carb is the primary, it has been leaking gas causing the engine to run very rough, I rebuild the carb with a new kit and it ran great for a couple miles then the carb overflowed and ran poor again. I blocked off the rear carb and used the front carb which doesnt seem to leak. Runs great drove it for 10 miles still seem to run rich, black carbon on the ends of the exhaust. The electric pump puts out 6 lbs of pressure.I think its lbs? The jets in the carb are 50s, are the jets to large, pressure to high. I live in Kansas Ciy. Thanks John

to much pressure #3 or maybe #4 is plenty, one carb only needs #2 1/2

You may want to change out the jets in the carbs to see if that fixes the problem.

The jets are fine. Too much pressure.

I'm running dual 97s with 2 1/2 lbs, I have an electric pump for easy starts. 3lbs was too much for mine. If you're running 94's 3lbs might be ok for you. Buy a fuel regulator and try running that before sinking more into the carbs. What carbs are you running and what type of work has been done to the engine?

I agree with too much pressure 2 1/2 is good

Fit an inline regulator - just before carbs a set it at about 4lbs, that will be more than enough pressure.

I have an electric pump and regulator by the tank. The regulator is set for 1 1/2lbs. Stock 59L block and 91-94 carb. The pump is used to overcome VL from the mechanical pump, and does just fine in that capaciy.

Udate: Installed fuel regulator
, set it on 3lbs works great engine idles down, you can barely here her run, very smooth, thanks to all for your excellant advice. John
