1940 Ford Coupe wheels and rims
 

Hi, im currently building a 1940 Ford Coupe street rod. Due to Regulation here i Norway it almost impossible to make mods to the frame to be able to fit wider tyres at the rear. So before i make a mistake :confused: and order some rims that are either to small or big:( im wondering if anybody has experience with what i can put on that looks cool, :D and also is drivable:D?
If you have pictures that will be appreciated.
Im using a mustag 2 front end 57 inch wide and also a 9 inch rear end 57 inch wide Wheel to wheel.

I ran L78:15's on ford pickup rims, they fitted in ok. I don't think I could have used anything much bigger.

I don't know how using the 9" would effect it though.

is the Lug pattern front & rear the same? I have a pair of Chrysler wire wheels which have a positive offset, they were on a 9 inch in a 34 Coupe which allow wide tires and not protrude past the fender,I will add pics today

Here are the 5 on 4 1/2 15 inch wheels I mentioned, notice the Rears have the positive offset,so more of the wheel sets inside the Fender, allowing to have wider tires .the 34 they were on had an uncut 9 inch and the offset was necessary to keep the tires tucked under the fenders

hey Dave, below is a small write-up describing offset. Hope this clarifies it.

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types (measured in millimeters).

Zero Offset

The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------


Positive

The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative

The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.
