Turn Signals
 

I am in the process of adding turn signals to my car. I plan to use the tail light for the rear but undecided about the front. I don't have cowl lights and am not crazy about the look of the logo lights mounted on the bumper. Anyone have any period or or early mounted lights on the front for turn signals. Pictures would be a big help. I'm looking for something that will not look odd on my unrestored car. Thanks

I keep looking for period turn signals also. I liked the rear bar with arrows that was posted the other day, and wish it was reproduced. Seems like some small lights the same shape as your headlamps and mounted to the headlamp mounting bolt would look good.

Thanks Tom. I'm looking at a set of teardrop spotlights with amber lens. I like that look or fog lights from a 34 era ford. Do you think these would be effective mounted on the bumper bracket. Are you suggesting mount the lights beside the headlights? Can you post a link to the bar with arrows you mentioned?

The first picture in reply # 35 has what I like. They would work as mounted on the headlight bar, and also mounted to the spare tire for the rear.:)

but I've taken the clamps off the bottom, and used a longer bolt where the screws go into the top of the chassis to hold the panels in place in front of the radiator (if that makes sense!).

By angling the bracket forward, it makes the turn signals visible from a good angle on the side, and also makes them level, as the base is actually slightly angled, so the lights would point somewhat upwards if they were on a level mounting.

I like how obvious they are, so people see them before they even blink - once it's blinking, they know exactly what it means. I think "hidden" lights still confuse people a bit.

I used a pair of repro '32 Ford sidelights by making my own brackets to fit on the bumber braces. The lenses are the same pattern as my '29 headlights. Look very "period."

How about using a socket in the headlight bucket? My A came with two-bulb headlights. The second socket was two contact socket. I wired my turn signals so that the brighter of the two filaments was for the turn signal, the lower as the park light. Works very well, visible even when the headlights are on, equally to most modern cars where the turn signal light is right next to the headlight.

Ck my avitar, I used Ford fog lights, wired intyo a signal stat in the front, custom brkts , you can't miss them when signaling for a turn, used the between the bumper bar ones in the rear.

I just use the lights on the vehicle. The front parking lights along with the cowl lights and the rear brake lights which are just run thru a signalstat.

I use the cowl lights for turn and park (dual filament bulb), and the brake lights on the rear. And like Patrick (above) powered by a Signalstat 900.

One of the guys in our club got some turn signal fixtures at the Harley shop. They are a tear drop shape, mounted them on the headlight bar. Look pretty nifty.

Here are mine. They are Harley Davidson turn signals with clear lenses and amber bulbs. They have a bullet shape which matches the headlights pretty well. I got these cheap on eBay.

I also used the 2 bulb reflectors and a brake light bulb. Very bright and you can't miss them.

I have seen these Beehive Clearance Lights used, change the bulbs to 6 volt, they can be purchased at almost any automotive shop, for $5.00 ea. Just paint the bracket black, and mount in the front splash apron holes. You can fit on Clear Lenses if you don't want Amber.
