1936 grill lower air scoop picture.

i'm looking for a picture of this sheet metal air scoop that bolts up to the bottom of the radiator on one end, and the lower grill on the other. my project didn't have one and i've never seen one. is it something i can make? any photos would help, thanks.

Re: 1936 grill lower air scoop picture.

If you have the1935-36 Ford book, there is a picture of it on p70. It is part #68-16554.
I have been told this was often not put back on by mechanics because it was such a pain
in the butt to get back on after they completed work. If you have to work on the ditributer or other parts in that area, this has to be taken off. It is called a radiator shield, used to direct air towards the radiator. I bought one and can attest that it was a real pain to get it on. Maybe it was not made quite to specs because the holes just wouldn't line up no matter what I did. terry

The referenced book is available via the Early Ford V8 Club website (earlyfordv8.org) for $29.95; it's areal bargain.

C’mon guys, it’s not THAT hard to install! Use a long punch to align the holes on one end, the metal is easy to pry into position. Ten minutes tops.

Tim, are you talking about an origina scoop or one that may have come from China?

Re: 1936 grill lower air scoop picture.

If you can find an original lower air scoop, it will have the horizontal grooves raised across the scoop. Early reproduction parts had these grooves recessed rather than raised. Only a subtle difference, however I believe they made it that way to avoid copywrite costs that Ford requires to allow you to represent the part as the same as from Ford. Bob Drake has to pay these costs when they represent the part as the same as Ford original and show the Ford oval trademark.

To my knowledge repops have never been made in China. The only ones I know of are made in Texas.

If you want to make your own, consider the required function as more important than what it looks like. It’s not there for looks, without it you’re likely to overheat.

Re: 1936 grill lower air scoop picture.

The odd thing for me was that i went quite a few years without having the part on and as long as I wasn't standing and waiting in a long line my 36 wouldn't overheat. Is there someone that still makes a circular fan shroud for the older v8s to remedy this situation?
