'48 Ford hood springs Anygood tips on how to spread the springs on the hood to remove in install new??

Re: '48 Ford hood springs I've read that to INSTALL them people put washers between the coils to EXPAND the spring. Would probably work just as well to remove the spring. FWIW

Re: '48 Ford hood springs Her is an old thread. The washer method seems easiest.

Re: '48 Ford hood springs I used a couple of ratchet straps to spread them and inserted cotter pins between the coils(I had a coffee can full of the same size pins.)

Re: '48 Ford hood springs You can use a floor jack to spread them.

Re: '48 Ford hood springs It is not hard to remove the whole hinge, then let it collapse. The spring will come off a lot easier then.

Re: '48 Ford hood springs on sort of the same vane, do the new springs make the hood open up more? being new to these 48/52 trucks, I find the hood/over fender access a little lacking

Re: '48 Ford hood springs This is a "for what it's worth" heads up. I changed the weak hood springs on my '48. I bought the replacements supplied by all the regular vendors, part #91A-16789. They were longer then the original springs, therefore the hood only opened half way up.
