Re: Powering a GPS with 6 volt. A 10,000mAh cellphone charger will run the GPS on your phone all day. Google maps. Cost $20

That really surprises me. I haven't used my CB since the late 70's. |
Re: Powering a GPS with 6 volt. 1 Attachment(s)
Seems to be a problem loading pics right now, but got one to load, red wire to ground, black to battery, that's all it takes,
No need to spend big bucks on such a simple issue |

Re: Powering a GPS with 6 volt. I stated "black to battery" just to be simple, fact is my connection is aft of the fuse block.
The draw on charging phones, GPS's is so slight I doubt it would read on the meter...but don't let that stop you. Point is, hooking up a USB phone charger to a Model A is so simple and quick. Keep in mind if you have a 6V neg or 12V pos system...wire it accordingly Go for it, you're not going to hurt anything |
Re: Powering a GPS with 6 volt. I have a Garmin GPS with Traffic. The GPS seems to work OK on 6v but the "Traffic" part does not. The "Traffic" works fine in my modern with 12v. I would venture to say that since the charge cord is also the antenna for traffic that has something to do with it.
I'm planning on installing a 12v converter to see if that helps. |

Me too. No out of pocket because I already owned these... about $7 for the lead/outlet and a couple more for the USB adapter. Even though you're only putting in 6VDC (instead of the 12 it is marketed for) the little USB adapter modulates to 5.11VDC anyway. Another shade tree innovation but as always... YMMV! Re: Powering a GPS with 6 volt. Look for "Anyone use a Tom-Tom GPS" that was posted earlier, go down to my reply NUMBER 11, I used a cigarette style lighter plug as the article shows and it works great for my GPS/and cell. Good article. Yes... powered by 6 volts

I'm interested in trying this in my Victoria. Thanks for the idea! |
