1935/36 Sedan Delivery Rear Bumper? 3 Attachment(s)
Can anyone tell me if this bumper is for a 1935 or 1936 sedan delivery? Are they different? It was marked “rear” when I bought it but it doesn’t have a groove in the center which causes me concern.

This is a close-up of your Bumper end. I believe that it is 1935. |
Re: 1935/36 Sedan Delivery Rear Bumper? The 35 sedan delivery used the same bumper as the cars, 36 was the first year for the indented rear bumper for the rear door a la the one in my avatar.

[QUOTE=rockfla;2346370]The 35 sedan delivery used the same bumper as the cars, 36 was the first year for the indented rear bumper for the rear door a la the one in my avatar. The one you have pictured the bend doesn’t look right? I have pictures of a bent bumper on my computer I will post in the morning!!

Re: 1935/36 Sedan Delivery Rear Bumper? My thoughts are the bend looks more to be from a stump, or pole, etc. Iirc, some 1933 pickups used a bumper with no stripe (front only of course). Check the inner hole centers... if about 22" is could be a 1933.
Now what is REALLY interesting is Mercman's photos. While the outside has the two stripes, the 1935 has a single wide stripe on the inside where the 1936 has a double stripe. The center between the stripes is more defined and a different shape than the 1936. Is the double inside stripe a somewhat common variation? Early aftermarket? Australian? |

Most North American 1935-36 bumpers (front and rear) have a significant downward swoop in the center section - yours appears to be pretty straight in that regard. Here's a '35. - https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...4&d=1730099953 |

He is talking about a Sedan Delivery rear bumper that does not have a swoop.35,36 commercial front bumpers do not have the swoop. Without having the grooves it could be an offshore ,or maybe Euro application
Pictured in post #7 is a '35 rear bumper. The fold over end is more pronounced on a '36. Here is a pic of a '36 SD rear bumper |

Here’s the rear bumper on my 35 Sedan Delivery, it’s been painted black but will be returning to chrome in the future.

It seems that this Thread is getting complicated? This picture that I added was the rear Bumper on a 1936 Ford Sedan Delivery that I saw at the V8 Nationals at Lake Tahoe back in 2013. Earlier in this Thread, it was stated that the 1935 Ford Sedan Deliveries didn't have this curved style rear Bumper. On that basis, I assumed that this was a genuine 1936 Ford rear Bumper, (as the 1935 Fords didn't have them) but on closer inspection, it appears to be more like the 1935 Bumpers. |

As deuce lover has pointed out, the bumper on this 1935 Ford Sedan Delivery (Dion35) appears to be a 1936 Ford rear Bumper |

Interesting thread here, I have posted several pictures here.....the first being what I saved as an 1935 ad but the wheels indicate 36....showing a indented rear bumper....The second is of a sedan delivery supposedly from a long garage slumber...interestingly on this one its a "straight" across bumper. After purchasing our 35 sedan delivery, which came with an indented 36 bumper....ALL information I had gathered was that 35's had the same rear bumper as ALL the car line of 35, that 36 was the start of the indented bumper

Re: 1935/36 Sedan Delivery Rear Bumper? I agree with Karl, the bumper in question looks like someone backed into a pole.

Karl NOT sure IF you are aware BUT many of the Euro (German in particular) 33's and "UP" had NO accent stripes. It seems to be a mixed bag of what I have both modern pictures and "back in the day" photos. I tend to believe that the "non" striped bumpers were a "local" sourced item as Ford of Germany had such an increasing pressure to use "local" materials and suppliers.....SO I think the striped bumpers were what was able to make it in to the country from the USA when "permitted"!!! |

So regarding the bumper, I just assumed it was correct but maybe not - I hadn’t really considered it. Both my front and rear bumpers have the single wide pressing on the inside - same as your photo of the 1935 bumper on the right next to the 1936 bumper. My Sedan Delivery is right hand drive, Canadian built. Would they have started using the different design earlier, or are Canadian made bumpers different to US bumpers? |

Re: 1935/36 Sedan Delivery Rear Bumper? Here's another picture of a rear bumper on a '35 that has the middle section with no bends either downward or inward. Maybe early ones were like this prior to the inward curved ones similar to the 36's (?).

Re: 1935/36 Sedan Delivery Rear Bumper? With that "duck tail" under the door, I can see why they went to the recessed bumper in '36 that's gotta be about almost a 2 foot reach into the interior with the existing bumper.
