Came across a great 40 pickup. Really nice condition. Cant believe what a great price. Car was stored in heated garage for 23 yrs. owner decided to let it move on. Odd but interesting engine trans, 440 ci Mopar w Torque Flite. Disc fronts 9 Currie rear. Correct chassis but boxed, sheet metal & chrome stock. Very happy camper!

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Nice looking truck, when your tired of the 440, you can put a screaming flatty back in it.
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Maybe you can donate those wheels and tires to some GANGSTA' in a 'hood near you. Or...
...maybe NOT so near. Body seems straight! DD

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Is the interior anywhere near original or completely changed out?
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup DD wheels gotta go 4 sure . J, interior not stock. Not too bad though. Grey Tufted & pleted bench & door panels. All steel in great shape, thx John & all 4 comments

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Nice solid truck from the pics. Once you have it straightened out, should be a great ride. Rear looks wide but with some negative offset rims, it will be fine?
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Thx Tom & agreed on wheels. Front wheels same issue. Need less offset on all.

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup AnthonyG;
Nice looking 1941! The hood trim is 1941 --the tailgate is 1941. 1940 tailgate was stamped "Ford V8" -- 1941s had v8, 4 cylinder and the first 6 cylinder engines available- thus only "Ford" - no V8 on tailgate. Check the serial Number list to confirm Ford's model year. No offence --just id info. Keep our old Fords on the road---good pictures! Thanks man! Gene Tulsa |
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Nice body but i'd be very tempted to start swapping it back to a more stock look.
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Interesting that the spare is on the left side. I didn't think that happened until 1942. If the bed is 48' wide you may have a '42 bed.
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Thx all, knew it wasnt stock. Loved the sheet metal & price was right got some more stuff stock guys would worry about but Im not. Titled as a 40. Know the hood is 41, Thx 4 tip on tail gate evidently also 41. Ill check the bed as suggested but even if 42 or 42 Im fine with that too. Most will probably freakout but also has a vent type skyline. Installed well & I like it:D

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Nice project to put a flathead in!
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup I think it is WAY beyond a flathead.
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Estout81 ur right. I do love flatty’s & have a ‘35 w a ‘49 perf’ed up 8BA this one is destined to stay in the more modified than not class. I will keep all the sheet metal & paint as is. Will put Stock seat upholstery. For now will work w the Mopar 440ci & Torque Flite as it’s there & tightly installed. Once running the engine & tranny R valuable as it’s an 1969 HP series engine. I will sell engine & tranny before next tuneup as it’s that hard to work on! Will go with 302ci / C4 instead.

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Sounds like a plan.

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Like V8COOPMAN says, would think it would need a construction title.
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Unfortunately it happens all the time with home built "street rods".
440... dang make sure the brakes work! :) |
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Rechecked / researched the title. Not having much knowledge of NJ titles evidently there’s quite a few different forms. As some indicated it is the reconstructed type. After looking at frame F1 #s knew the # on title was too short in comparing. Went to Internet to see pic of sample reconstruction title and that’s what it is. It has a VIN replacement #.
As it came up thought u all would be interested. All fine with me, price was right, truck condition great, & I’m more towards the Retro mod fan. Although I love my ‘35 which is a lot closer to original. Working on the juice brakes on that one, have considered putting T5 as some have. New toy will delay a bit. |
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup When you're thinking about a 302 and an auto tx look at an AOD vice a C4. Same bolt pattern and it will improve the drive-ability immensely. Slight difference in length but you're going to need a new drive shaft anyway. Just my $0.02 worth. dw
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Will do :)
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup I love AODs, but the are a lot bigger than a C4. Should have room in that frame though.
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Didn't keep up & just saw comment on AOD. Know it's a trans from conversation but unfamiliar with? Any background appreciated. Do suppliers have / carry rebuilds?
|
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup AODs are four speed OD transmissions. Ford introduced the AOD in 1980, I am most familiar with them from the Mustangs (1984 to 1993). The gear ratios are 2.400, 1.467, 1.000 & .667

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Nice truck--Is it still sitting on a Ford chassis?

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Nice looking truck, and with just a little tinkering it will be nicer still. Enjoy...40-41 are Ford's best style.

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Very nice !

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup In case anybody is interested thought I'd give an update on vehicle Circa & build trail, it is a bit of a Frankenstein but still love it. All sheet metal is great, seems to have been a southern truck. As best I can figure from inspection & all u'r info & info gained on The Hamb. The Bed and rear fenders appear to be '42-'47 two clues, no welded over fab of gas fill hole in area of left rear fender & spare tire mount plate on drivers side of bed. The frame's not an F1 rather is a '42 to '47 utilizing oak spacers to accommodate cab & bed to frame alignment w modified power steering & disc brakes. Cab and front clip are '40-'41 clue is no gas fill hole on passenger side rear of cab & no indication of after fab weld work, also as mentioned here hood and grill trim indicate '41hood & grille. Originally titled as a reconstruction in 1995 in Kentucky and VIN is assigned by Ky. as a 1940. If other info becomes available I'll share it.

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Congratulations on finding such a neat truck.
It pays to step up when the price is right. Once you get the wheels and tires redone you will be riding pretty. |
Re: New Ride, 40 pickup Also the engine running perfectly after juicing up cylinders with a loosening cocktail of Croil, MM oil treatment, WD40 squirted into cylinders & marrinated for 2 weeks then drained & turned right over. New oil & filter, a new battery & plugs, dressed / cleaned dual points & clean gas. She fired right up after a 23 yr nap. Will address brakes before road test but they did bleed & adjust fine for now. Playing on my 900 foot drive way for now :).

Re: New Ride, 40 pickup 1 Attachment(s)
FYI progress report. Got engine running no prob. runs real nice, doesn't burn any oil & very quick. Brakes looked work great after cleaning adjusting and new fluid. Changed all lines and hoses for gas and brakes. Replaced rear mounted under bed gas tank. It was a Frankenstein from another car, too mucked up to bother with, looked as if it'd been cut and welded to fit & couldn't identify anyway so had a new aluminum tank made w sending unit and flush to bed filler cap. Looks real nice included a pic of new tank from under. replacing some bed boards & will take pics of that w flush gas cap when complete. Haven't done yet but tires and wheel replacement next.
