Pictures of YOUR transmission rebuild stand.

Do you folks use a stand to rebuild your transmission? If so I would request you post a picture and a comment or two. I am thinking of building one and would like to see the "state of the art". Thanks in advance to everyone willing to share.

You don't want to over think this, in the day a kitchen table will do.

Re: Pictures of YOUR transmission rebuild stand.

I have used a wide 5 wheel to nestle the trans in, on top of the bench.

Here's the style I manufacture and use. They will fit all Ford 3spd trans cases from '32 to '48..................top shift, side shift, and V8 60.

Pipethread in the bottomplug of the case then either in your benchwise or make a floormount.

Mine looks exactly like my work bench - because it is my work bench.

Here is the pipe with a plywood floor mount. Pipe screws into the bottom drain.

This what I use. I tapped a piece of box steel and then mount that in the vice. Works well for me.

I've also fabbed up cradles out of the bed frame angle iron. Works great.

Here's one I saw somewhere and copied the pictures to my files for future reference. It may be Vern Tadell's idea/design, can't remember. I've also made some legs using 3/4" angle iron that bolted to the holes in the front bell and kept the case sitting open end up on my work bench. That worked well, but no pictures available, just have to use your imagination ;)

This made me laugh. Mine is the same, my work bench.

The last time I did one was on the floor of the barn.

Just a simple box section frame to stop it rolling around, can be clamped in vice too.

Mine bears a remarkable resemblance to the floor (with some added padding). When they're done I put them on a small padded moving dolly from Harbor Freight.

Re: Pictures of YOUR transmission rebuild stand.

I use a steel pipe plug ( drain plug size )with a chuck of 5/16 flat stock welded to the square. The plug goes in the bottom of the case and the flat stock goes in my vise.

That's the one I use instead of just a piece of pipe in the drain hole. It allows you to move the trans around with out loosening the vice. Worked great.

I use Paul's (svm99) bases. It works well for both rebuilding and storage of transmissions.

I use a 1/2” pipe and flange mounted to my bench works with both style cases. Also have a board with several to display transmissions in the shop. Screws right into the drain or fill plug.

Here's mine. Got tired or wrestling around on the bench. Drilled and tapped for other types of transmission cases

i like the duece 5w thing, but would make it to clamp in the vise

Re: Pictures of YOUR transmission rebuild stand.

I used a piece of pipe about 4 inches long welded to about 4 inches of square tubing.
I put the square tubing in the vise and away we go.
Done and Done

I use Paul's too. Super simple and sturdy for both top and side shift.

A few more that work well for me

Re: Pictures of YOUR transmission rebuild stand.

Although I'm an 8BA guy and only work on later transmissions, it looks like the "pipe in the drainhole" would work just as well for them as the earlier boxes. I would probably never thought of it myself; thanks.

Mart 01-11-2018 02:06 PM

Re: Pictures of YOUR transmission rebuild stand.

With the pipe in the drainhole, make sure you don't turn it too often anti-clockwise.;)

Mart.
