'50 F2 price? 2 Attachment(s)
Looking at a 50 F2. Seems to me they are worth some what less than the F1? This one the guys asking $6500. Add says runs and drives good, new brakes, needs minor cosmetic restoration. See attached? Too much, just right?

Re: '50 F2 price? From pic and description seem worth 6500

Re: '50 F2 price? How long has it been for sale?
Re: '50 F2 price? Listed for about a week

Re: '50 F2 price? I'm going to look at it on thurs morning.

Re: '50 F2 price? Good luck lets us know how it turns out
Re: '50 F2 price? If it runs well and has very little rust ,I'd say it's definitely worth it. The F2s maybe less popular but they are also less common so it's a matter of taste. If you like it I would make an offer of say $5000 and see what happens.
Re: '50 F2 price? Yep, was thinking $5K to me my target.
Re: '50 F2 price? I think 5k would be a good offer
Re: '50 F2 price? Is it common to remove a couple of leafs to make the ride a little softer, or is it possible to use F1 springs?
Re: '50 F2 price? I agree looks solid, the f2s have high rear gear.Going to back Rd truck. It all depends on what you are going to be doing and were you want to drive it.Check cab and sheet metal for rust and holes.A rust free running f2 no smoke 3500-6000 It all about condition. Looks good from here,Good luck need any parts call me 301 514-5017

Re: '50 F2 price? Other than the obvious ( suspension ) are they that much different than the F1's. I think they were only available with a long bed but F1 were available with the long bed. Assuming the chassis is heavier but is the cab / bed any different? Booked up a little on F1's but this came up and looked interesting. Guess I gotta go back to school?
Re: '50 F2 price? F2s have heavier springs, bigger brakes, and a heavier rear axle among a few other differences. The F2 & F3 are both a bit harder to source the parts that are common to them only. You can haul a lot more and trailer a bigger package than the F1 for sure but they are more utilitarian and therefore less popular than the F1. We had an F3 when I was a kid and it rode like a lumber wagon but I loved the damn thing. I learned more about driving in that old truck than any other single vehicle when I was growing up. We could haul a 1500 lb bull in the bed with no problem (we custom built a stock rack to fit into the bed). We also had a big water tank for it when the windmill was on the fritz.

Re: '50 F2 price? Probably sound like a dummy but can I put the F1 springs on the F2 to ease up the ride? Or, do I need to pull the springs apart and remove a couple of leafs. If so how many front and rear makes it a reasonable ride?
Re: '50 F2 price? Offer him 5 grand. Leave the main and the first leaf on and every one afterwards.
Re: '50 F2 price? Front springs of F! will fit the f2You also have bear for a rear end gear of 4 86 45 mile per hour top speed Good luck
Re: '50 F2 price? If it has the Four-speed transmission,You will graduate from the College of Double-Clutching.
Re: '50 F2 price? Did the '50 have an open drive shaft or still have a closed torque tube?
Re: '50 F2 price? Open drive started in '42 for the PU's, so yes, open drive.

As for pricing, $6500 is the about top of the market for a driver. Beyond the price, the bigger question is your preference on trucks. The F2 is longer, with a stiffer ride, and has some parts that are harder to come by (brakes and sheetmetal mainly). The rear end gearing is usually lower for the F2/3 as well. The front fender openings are larger and can be tougher to get looking 'right' with modern tires. The brake drum size limits choices for alternative wheels. |
Re: '50 F2 price? Got a question on the title matching the truck as I was reading another post about non matching titles. Where do I look for the #'s on the F2 and is it the entire VN# on the title that should match?
Re: '50 F2 price? The serial number (VINs showed up later) is shown on the glove box data plate, the firewall data plate, and on the top of the passenger side frame rail between the radiator and the engine block. The same number should be in all three places. There may also be some coding on the middle of the firewall below the cowl vent. That coding is different from the serial number.

Re: '50 F2 price? Thx a bunch guys, feeling adequately prepared to "Haggle" with all the great info you guys have given me. Will be looking at it tomorrow morning.
Re: '50 F2 price? Here is the FTE website link for the 48-51 F series..... lots of good info and a great group of guys to help.
http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum41/ My two cents, take a flashlight so you can inspect the body seams and areas where the fenders are bolted together. All of these areas over time seem to collect dirt, debris, and moisture which promotes rust. If improperly repaired in the past it will look good but may not last. Also a magnet to check for bondo or a good look from inside to see wrinkled body panels. .....maybe that was a nickels worth! Hope you bring that good lookin F2 home. |
Re: '50 F2 price? Will be test driving it tomorrow. Don't want to make a bigger fool of my self than I have too, lol. Where is 1st and reverse on the crash box 4 speed? I will use it in the test to make sure it's good but have read it's a granny gear and you normally start out in 2nd?
Re: '50 F2 price? Well how did you like the truck? purchase it?
Re: '50 F2 price? They have a conventional 4-speed pattern but reverse is to the right. I think the synchronized 4-speeds shift up to the right and the non-synchro shift right & down if I remember correctly.
Re: '50 F2 price? Thx, rotowrench. i'll let you know which and if I embarrass myself, LOL.
Re: '50 F2 price? Woke up to snow cover and didn't feel like crawling laying around in the muck. Will try for Weds. Got another question. What is the 8 bolt pattern on it?
Re: '50 F2 price? Anthony......I had a '49 F-2.....it was a great truck, but understand that a lot of the parts for sale on an F-1 are NOT inter-changable with the F-2. Brake Drums for one is a very tough item. Also...the front fenders are not the same as a F-1. Brakes were a real problem and I had to use all kinds of different Ford brakes for front and rear. Mine was in very nice condition and I got $ 6,800 for it. The guys say $ 5,000 grand and that just might be a fair price. Just make sure you look it all over before you buy it. There are many other items that will not fit from an F-1.
