Loose fan belt
Are the fan belts on our Model A's suposed to be looser than on modern cars? How much play do you have in yours?

Re: Loose fan belt
I have about 1 1/2" push-pull midway from water pump to generator. The belt only needs to be tight enough to not slip on the fan or generator. If either hub is hot or shows burned paint, then you know the belt was slipping. My belt is 10 years old and still looks like new.

Re: Loose fan belt
fat fan belts need less tension to work. 1 inch of movement in the center of the long section of the belt is enough. Too tight will burn out the gen and fan bearings.

Re: Loose fan belt
I find that as long as you cant spin the gen pulley with your fingers, then the belt is tight enough.
