'40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism
Morning....
Had the '40 out yesterday and when I got back home and shut my driver's door I heard something go..."tink" ! Didn't think anything of it until I had to go out again and the door handle inside and out are loose. Door wouldn't shut again. Going to remove the door panel over the weekend and find out what I need to do. I'm assuming it's a spring of some kind. Anyone know whit I'm in for when doing this ? Thx.....MIke |

Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism
yes the spring replacement job requires welding and three hands. Also a spotter if the spring escapes and flies into the garage.

Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism
If the inside door handle was loose also look for it's spring to be broken in addition to the latch mechanism spring.

Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism
I have extra NOS 40 door latches. PM me. Of course the driver's door gives up first as it is usually used way more then the passenger side.

Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism
It’s for sure the spring in remote pivot arm. Got it out and cleaned it all up and found a small piece of spring stuck in the grease. Ugh…..!

Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism
Have you removed the latch? I would check that too if the outside handle feels loose.
