Default Re: Manifold heater time - what kind do you have?

I had no heater, but a Red Head gadget on the inside where one funnel shaped piece slides inside another, so you can have it closed, half open or anywhere in between. I opted for a novelty heater, sawed off 23" of trombone with the bell and attached it with stainless zipties. Finally got rid of the rattles... Now its a real eye catcher especially when someone looks in the hood louvers and says "What is THAT???". It works about as well as the others!

Karl, here's the photos of how the advance/retard linkages are set up to avoid the heater on the manifold of my RHD phaeton. A linkage direction changer (is that what you call it?) was attached to a bolt welded to the inlet manifold. The photos were taken with the AUTO-LITE heater cover taken off, just showing the waffle manifold. You can see that the clearance between the linkage and the waffle is sufficient to allow for the heater cover. The linkages are connected by a little spring loaded cap on the end of one link that captures the ball on the end of the other link (see photo with linkage disconnected and my fat fingers in full view!)

I take no credit for this bit of work, which was done by the previous owner (a FB member). I can connect you with him if you wish.

Be cold no more!!

P.S. You can see where I've scribed the firewall for the heater door but haven't cut the hole yet. Hate damaging an original firewall, but I reckon it's too crowded on the RHS of the engine to run any extra ducts to a floor register.

Ottwell flat top heater - almost impossible to get to dizzy hold down screw! I used a piece of metal flexible exhaust tubing to reach the firewall door

It arrived today and it it's easy to work with. I ordered 2 3/4 and it works OK but if I was to order it again, highly unlikely, I would order 2 1/2, tight fit on the heater end and you should be able to twist it on before clamping it. Can't test it out right now, been raining, today is damp and cold and I'm down with the flu so...it's back to bed for me. I've got some chicken soup being brought to me....if you catch my drift!!!!
