Re: Sorry to inform you of the passing of Howard Taylor
Howie, as his friends called him, grew up and worked under the tutelage of Model A and Zenith guru Paul Moller. When Paul passed, his carb rebuilding tools, equipment and expertise went to Howard. For years Howard Taylor ran a small A parts business in addition to his carb work. The Taylor jet flow specs can be seen beside those of other rebuilders on Vince's website HERE.
Howard went beyond just rebuilding the carb. He would ask questions about the car and your driving habits and expectations. You got a carb tested and tweaked exactly for you. I have two sidebowls done by Howie and they are spot on. The Taylor bypass oil filter that replaces the timing gear side cover is also his work. Howie was almost always seen with his little dog Annie at his side. In the last year Howard's health was declining and he could not drive long distances. Just a few months ago I had the privilege, as his friend, of taking him from Oak Lawn (south of Chicago) to Oshkosh. It was just a one night trip, he had business and a bit of rare parts trading to do. I used to see Howie every month at the Salt Creek meetings and events. He was a plethora of unpublished details about A's and I always learned something every time we spoke. He was only 58, far to young. Last edited by MikeK; 12-01-2012 at 10:30 AM. Re: Sorry to inform you of the passing of Howard Taylor
I met Howard at Merrillville in 2009 at the MARC meet. I bought a tested carburetor jet set from him for a very reasonable price. I think I still have his business card. We talked for quite a while about carburetors and model A's. I saw him again at Oshkosh this summer and we talked some more. I believe he has had several kidney problems. He looked gaunt but cheerful. He was a nice fellow, like most model A people are. He will be missed.
