Default Paint manf question

After pricing PPG WB at $500 a gallon I am looking for a alternative.I know, that prepping the car and getting it ready ,use the best you can buy but there has to be something just a good,in the single stage urethane( had good results with this on the 35)'..Pro Spray is one at about half the price of PPG and people have good thing to say about it on the forums,.has anyone on here used it? Or what have you used?

I like Restoration Shop single stage from TCP Global.

I'm using bambalino blue on my 36 woodie. They have the paint codes as well.

I've been spraying alot of Montana System 22 single stage solid colors. Sprays nice and sands and buffs like glass. They were recently bought out by ChemSpec. I've been using this for 15 years or so with no problems.

PPG has or had other lines as well. The WB has to stand for waterborne and is probably their top line and their most expensive. Ask your jobber about their economy line. Dupont has an economy line called Nason. Sherwin Williams has a couple lines and manufactures Martin Seynour for Napa. I've sprayed some Restoration Shop from TCP and can't fault it. Summit has some paint they're selling. There's others as well.

It probably comes down to what is important to the user. Ease of application, price or long life. I used single stage U Tech which is a line from Sikkens. Don't know if a 20 year lifespan is that important to an older person.

I have been using Dupont Centari and Nason paints for about 32 years. Both paints have served me well and I have seen some paint jobs done 20 or more years ago that look just as good today as the day they were painted.

I didn't know they still made Centari. That product has been around for years, and was a favorite of a friend of mine that has been in the body shop business since the '50's, "The lacquer & lead era"

I use PPG, Omni line of 2 stage. If I am going to spend a lot of time and money on the preparation, I want to spray a good product. I think anybody could put this stuff on if you read and do what the tech sheet says.... If you make a mistake it is easy to fix.

After checking the price of PPG and DuPont single stage paints I tried some locally available single stage urethane by Advantage. It color sands and buffs out nicely but has some drawbacks; its only available in gallons and when spraying it stays wet and sticky and floats all over and now every thing in my garage has a fine coating of it. Comes in pre-packaged colors only.
I also used some NAPA Crossfire Gold single stage urethane which is a little more expensive but still lots less than the PPG and DuPont and it sprays with very little orange peel and if you thin it a little more than recommended it will lay down so smooth you could get away without sanding and buffing if you have a clean spray area. It also sanded and buffed nicely. Custom mixed on site so lots of colors to pick from.
I think if I was to start a new project I would consider the Summit Racing paint line; it's available in quarts and the catalyst and thinner is compatible with the primers and finish coats; except for the epoxy primer that has it's own catalyst. Pre-packaged colors only.

DuPont sold their automotive paint division a few months ago to the people that own Dunkin Donuts for 6 billion dollars. The take over is in Feb. How do I know, my grandaughter works there. G.M.

Was told just 3 weeks ago by a Sikkens shop when attempting to obtain more single-stage Sikkens, that they've gone exclusively to 2-stage paint. Needless to say, I was disappointed. They can still match the color, however you must apply color then clear.

For reference Glasurit offers their 22-line urathane acrylic high solids single stage. Two coat coverage plus one for rub and buff. Exceptional distinctness of reflected image out of the gun. For black I like the older BMW Avus black. Did I mention pricey. (question mark delete)
