Question New Gas,,,Problem's !!!

Hi Guy's

I alway's run the Carb Dry when I shut down the engine...I have a new shut off Valve.....It must drip fuel into the carb and there's the problem..If I don't run the engine for a few week's The jet's plug up !!!

Tried to start the motor this morning & it only run's with the choke almost closed..I'll have to clean the carb out "Again"...Is there something that will stop the Alcohol in the fuel from causing the problem...

Maybe a inline shut off Valve ? What a problem,,,,,is this the way it's going to be after the car sit's for a while "Tear the carb down for cleaning ?"

Gregg Out West .................
Some places, you can still buy non-ethonal gasoline. I don't know about California, I didn't check.
Use this site to find out the closest place to you. It has been around a while, and may not still be current.

http://www.historicvehicle.org/Lates...ol-classic-car

It looks like the list of non-ethonal sources has been dropped ! I can't access it now. Sorry !
Can anyone else come up with it ?
I copied and pasted from my previous posting of this. ?????

AREOCRAFT has posted, below, the correct site to find stations that sell non-ethonal gas.
It is http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp

Try adding Marvel Mystery Oil to your fuel when you fill up. I've found about two ounces per tank helps things for a while. If I let it sit more than a month, I need to add Sta-bil or something like that.

I always routinely put Sta-bil into my gas tank whenever I fill it up. I would suggest that you use the Sta-bil Ethanol Treatment . That's what I've been using the past few months.
Seems to be working well.

What are you finding when you clean the carburetor ?? Even this new crap 'they' call gasoline doesn't varnish in a couple weeks.. I'm wondering if you're having a rust/sediment problem.. What kind of filtration, if any, are you using ?? Some fellas say they can not use an in-line filter,,but,, I use one with no problems..

Patrick L. ................
In the older car, open air system, the ethonal gasoline seperates. The bad stuff falls to the bottom and then gets into our carburetors and valves. It is best to drive your cars often, to keep it stired up, and also, to not keep too much gasoline in your tanks.

FL&WVMIKE ;

I keep my tank full at all times to minimize rusting . I also drive my car two or three times a week .I also shut off the gas going to the carburator when I stop . I use to shut of the gas and run it until it died but I stop doing that as it caused the engine ( as it was taking its last breath )to put more stress on the motor mounts than I thought was healthy .

Hi,friends of mine are using Startron gas additive by Starbrite in all their cars (old and new). They are in the auto restoration business, and have cars that don't get driven much. They're convinced it works. Starbrite has a website that gives detailed info on how E-10 causes problems in tanks. Sorry I can't provide a link.

You could always move to Alaska -- we haven't had alcohol in our gasoline for several years now.

This from the pure-gas.org website:

Alaska: All stations dispense ethanol-free gasoline.
Alberta, Nova Scotia: All stations dispense ethanol-free gasoline. Some also dispense E10, so check the pump.
British Columbia: all 94-octane Chevron fuel is ethanol-free.

Before you put additives in the gas you should read an article posted on this forum about 2 months ago . The article was a summary of test performed by a lab . on various additives and their affect on the engine . I use to run additives but no more after reading this article.

This is straight from the horses' mouth on ethanol. I was getting pure gas until mid-march. Now I have issues with my old cars, outboard motors and lawn mowers. I have had to pay a considerable sum of money to keep my stuff running on this crap. The EPA, under this administration, has run roughshod over the consumers to please the eco-nazis.

Ditto.
Yesterday I had to replace the two fuel lines and take apart the fuel filter and carb to clean them due to the effects of crap gas. The fuel lines were cracked and leaking, as well as all mushy on the inside from ethanol. Many car fires have resulted from ethanol laced gas, and a van fire killed some kids in a daycare van fire a few years ago here in the Twin Cities. My brother lost his Nova due to the fuel hose disintegrating from ethanol and about 6 years ago I almost lost my Omni from ethanol damage to the fuel hose. I had just returned home from work and was about to walk into the house. Luckily I just happened to turn around and look at my car and saw smoke coming out of the hood. I was able to pop the hood and get the fire out with only a few burned hoses and wires. Ethanol has cost America a lot of money, lives, and trouble, and I sure hope it will come to an end, but I doubt it will.

Go to your local NAPA store and get a can of SEAFOAM. Works great to combat the ill effects of ethanol. You can even use it in your oil. We sell a ton of Seafoam at our NAPA store, to folks with old cars, trucks, tractors and small engines.

Ottawa area, no corn in the high test at several dealers. I run with high test and have no problems even with the gas sitting all winter in the tank.

Out here in California it is impossible to get gas without ethonol. My '05 Toyota Prius milaage dropped off about 4 or 5 MPG some time ago and I blamed gasahol.

We drove to Marquette MAFCA meet last month and I was getting much better mileage. One station in Iowa was selling premium about 8 cents cheaper than regular. It was gasahol, obviously subsidized by the "corn state". I paid more for real gas.

One tank of gas in MI I got 51.0 MPG. Most tanks averaged 44 to 47 MPG. Back home I'm again getting 37 to 43 MPG per tank.

I proved the issue to my satisfaction. It's the "crap gas" as Tom calls it.

Pay attention. November is right around the corner.

It's not the oil companies that insist on putting corn in your gas. It's the federal government.

I believe it's the corn lobby causing our problems. They have proposed to call corn syrup "corn sugar". I have problems turning food into fuel when much of the world is having a food shortage.
