Anyone else had this issue
Bought a head stud set and one of the “short” head studs on each side of the block is shorter than all the rest and does not allow for full thread engagement of the hex nut? ALL the other studs are right at the top surface or are slightly protruding the hex nut with the washer installed!! I know this needs to be replaced but wonder IF this has been an issue for any others?

It would be interesting to know what the seller says about it.

Re: Anyone else had this issue
Whomever supplied the set needs to send you a couple that are the correct size! I only use ARP studs (expensive), but they are really nice parts and they hold torque extremely well. With most aftermarket Grade 8 studs, you'll see quite a bit of stretch - so make sure you heat cycle and retorque a few times. Usually takes 2 - 3 times before they no longer change torque readings.

What year is the block and what year are the heads?

Re: Anyone else had this issue
Usually they send short studs for 24 stud motors with aluminum heads. I don't think i would be out of line to say venders don't have any idea what they are selling today. Certainly when it's original. Aluminum heads are popular, so thats what they make. It's all the same to them. I could be wrong.

Re: Anyone else had this issue
You could probably pull that stud out a few turns from the block, less you didn't flip it the wrong way... as the adjacent seems fine. Best of luck!

Re: Anyone else had this issue
Did the "shoulder" of the stud sink or get pulled into the block allowing it to seat deeper?

Re: Anyone else had this issue
You can always use a scrap nut and weld it only the end of the stud if you have an issue trying to pull it. Then you won't have to pull the heads.
