Wiper motor parts
Took my wiper motor apart this weekend and think I found the problem: a broken rocker home spring hanger. In this picture, the good part is the second from the left.
Here's the question: where can I source another? Most of the wiper rebuild kits don't include this part. Most of the ones that do are out of stock. I see only one source, a Chevy kit for $65. I hate to spend $65 for this one little part. I'm posting this in the early v8 forum too; looks like the same part. Suggestions? [/QUOTE] Last edited by SoCalCoupe; 11-07-2023 at 09:52 AM. |

Re: Wiper motor parts
It appears to be made of thin fibreboard, can you not source some fibreboard or an alternate material to make one out of?

You are correct about the material. I don't think my tools and skills are up to the task of fabricating this part. I've tried these kind of things before and they've never gone well. |

Re: Wiper motor parts
Micarta sheet material is available in a lot of different thicknesses for circuit boards and fairleads or wear blocks.

Re: Wiper motor parts
Case closed for now. One of the great folks here on the 'Barn offered to send me one from a non-rebuildable motor.

Re: Wiper motor parts
Replaced the rocker arm return and the now the mechanism operates properly. New problem is that motor seems to be the source of a vacuum leak. Air is very clearly being drawn into the motor at idle through the slot that looks like it should be the air intake. I suspect it needs to suck in air while operating but I wouldn't think it should be an ongoing think when the wiper is off.
I COULD just give up and buy an electric motor, or, here in Southern California where it never rains just forgo a wiper altogether but I'm determined to make this work right. Should I hear a distinct vacuum suck from the motor when parked? Thoughts? |

Re: Wiper motor parts
The go-to folks for Trico wipers is Ficken Wiper Service. They state that they don't sell rebuild kits, but if you're looking for only one part they may be able to help you. They rebuilt the wiper on my '31 in 2005 and it's still working fine. As far as I know they're still in business, at least their website appears to be up-to-date and maintained.

Re: Wiper motor parts
You should join the Facebook group "Trico Vacuum Products fan group" I have posted a lot of technical tips there on how to go about restoring these wipers. With the wiper that you have got there, the gasket and paddle seal kits sold by the model A suppliers should work, although they are not perfect.
